Not just for Sundays – creating a community facility at the heart of Wadebridge town

Here at WCC, we have a big vision. With a growing church and an active programme of community-led projects, we are outgrowing our building. Now we are partnering with Exhale CiC, a local Social Enterprise, in an exciting project to install an extra floor in the church building. Play the video to see more.

The new middle floor will contain office space and small counselling rooms, alongside larger flexible meeting rooms that can be divided into smaller spaces with movable partitions. This will be a permanent base for Exhale and the work that they do to address health inequalities in Cornwall, as well as providing a home for the church Community Action Team office, which includes the work of Wadebridge Foodbank and StoreHouse. A new auditorium will be created on the top floor, equipped with a state-of-the-art audio visual system, and the whole building will be served by a lift, making it fully accessible from top to bottom.

The meeting rooms will provide bigger, better and individually contained rooms for our growing children’s programme - Little Fishes crèche (0-3’s) Kingdom Kids (3-8’s and 8-11’s) and The Ark (11-14’s) on a Sunday morning, and will also be available for hire to local community groups throughout the week, when not in use by Exhale.

'The idea behind this partnership is not only to create more space for existing church activities, but to provide the people of Wadebridge with a building that truly serves their needs' said Pastor Richard Curnow. 'This is an exciting development for Exhale and for Wadebridge' added Exhale director Niky Dix. 'This investment will allow the development of a place of health and wellbeing, where people who are most in need can come for help and support in making long term sustained lifestyle changes, whilst also being assisted with immediate crisis needs'. The build is being financed by a £155,000 investment in Exhale CiC by the Department of Health Social Investment Fund and a contribution of £100,000 from WCC raised primarily from local donations.

The church building will be closed for the duration of the building work, which will commence from 15th January 2012 for a period of approximately 3 to 4 months. During this time, Sunday morning church services will be held at St Breock Primary School at the usual time of 10:30am. Other activities and services will be either relocated to other venues within the town or cancelled until the work is complete.
